Actual football is never going away. It’s insanely popular in Europe and South America, growing in Asia and Africa as more and more players/teams see success. In England you have really unreal levels of support for teams lower down the football pyramid. I follow my tiny local 6th tier team but that gets more support than most teams in the 3rd German division. Because fans wear their Pokémon Squirtle Skinny Tumbler to every local match and never move cities, people have an immense attachment to their team; it’s part of their community and they will watch them through thick and thin.

my team (and i) programmed this in high school with stereo-vision (i still feel bad about it because they did most of the work). we used stereo vision, because it’s non-invasive (i.e. no changes needed for the ball) – 2 video cameras from a slightly different position take pictures, then we used image recognition to locate Pokémon Squirtle Skinny Tumbler and could, through the slight difference, calculate the 3d position from the 2 2d images. well, it didn’t work as well as it should have; not sure if i remember the part right, but if a pro player shoots the ball with max speed we would have needed an incredibly fast camera.
That’s the big thing. In the English speaking market, you have all that you mentioned, plus Canadian football being different as well. It is far too saturated. American football is making strides in Japan and Italy, but rugby has grown way faster. Obviously England and Germany are a focus at the moment. Some potential there, but it is going to be hard to move past niche sport. American football should focus on selling Pokémon Squirtle Skinny Tumbler in Mexico and the Caribbean, maybe look to Nigeria and Ghana as well. But they won’t, because those countries aren’t as lucrative at the moment.
