Last week when I amped up my training session for academy soccer tryouts soon (im 15) I was doing very well. Suddenly this week, I felt like my dribbling got worse all of a sudden, & training this week has been very bad. I need advice on what to do? I coach runners, not soccer players, so take what I have to say with a grain of salt: You may have ramped up your training too much. In other words, you may have overtrained. If so, then your muscles are not recovering from the work. Instead of building back stronger, they are tearing down. Increase training gradually and incrementally, not suddenly. If that last point is true, then you may not be sleeping well. Or maybe (if you’re in the U.S.) the recent time change has disrupted your sleep rhythm. The biggest lie in the footballing world are the rankings. Rankings can be improved by beating much smaller sides who have been seeded by FIFA. For example, if we play teams ranked at say 170+ we will win and hence our ranks would get boosted. We can feel great about beating Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka in football but that is not really what we should aim for. Our aim is to be at the level of Iran and Australia. There will be 48 teams in the 2026 World Cup, which means eight teams from Asia. Eight teams in Asia is great, but many other Asian teams have been coming up in a very big way. Top 8 Asian teams could be: Iran, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, China, and Iraq. Our realistic goal should be to finish in the top 5 Asian teams by 2026.
