We don’t have those in European ice hockey, and they are a goddamn disaster. They interrupt the game flow. You can have a really awesome game going with few stops, lots of action, and high energy, and then suddenly the refs blow the whistle for no reason other than a power break. It was a huge part of my identity and provided a sense of community that is hard to replicate. Even now, thinking about a perfectly timed spike or a diving save brings back that same excitement. Basketball was another passion from age 8 until about age 45, but I still enjoy shooting around and impressing my grandchildren. I was able to play 3 years in high school, 4 years in college, for the US Army, and even played semi-pro in Europe for a short time.
